UK Student Visa Bank Account
Bank statements are mandatory for all types of UK student visas. These statements must prove that the student can cover all expenses during their stay in the UK, including tuition, accommodation, and daily expenses.
The most important and most common reason for visa refusal in the UK is a lack of a bank account. The same applies to student visas. Therefore, showing sufficient funds in your account to cover expenses such as visa type, duration of stay in the UK, education costs, and accommodation is crucial to avoid visa refusal.
For UK student visas lasting up to 6 or 11 months, the amount of money required in the bank account can be calculated taking into account tuition fees, accommodation costs, the duration of study, and daily expenses. The required amount of money in the account for these visa types should not be a recent deposit or a single transfer. If a recent, single transfer is presented as proof of funds, the source of this money must be officially documented.
The amount of money required in the bank account for a long-term student visa (Tier 4 Student Visa) application is calculated taking into account tuition fees, the duration of study, the city where the study will be conducted, and living expenses. When calculating the amount of money needed for a UK student visa, the total living expenses are determined by considering the duration of study and the city of study. Tuition fees, if not yet paid, must also be added to this amount.
If applying for a UK long-term student visa (Tier 4 visa), the account must show tuition fees and a monthly balance of £1334 if studying at a school in London. If studying at a school outside of London, the account must show tuition fees and a monthly balance of £1023.
The required amount must have been in the account for 28 days prior to the application. If the required amount or more is deposited into the account close to the application deadline, the student visa application may be rejected.
For Student Visa Tier-4 dependent visas, each applicant will be required to show funds in their account. (845 Pounds per month for London, 680 Pounds per month for outside London)
Bank statements submitted with a wet signature and stamp from the bank must be presented along with a cover letter confirming that the funds are currently in the account.
UK Student Visa Insurance
For courses lasting up to 6 months, no insurance payments are required. If the course at an educational institution in the United Kingdom lasts longer than 6 months, insurance payments will be made as part of the visa application.
The Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) fee depends on the visa duration. Payment must be made by credit card during the online visa application process. Payment cannot be made after application or before traveling to the UK. The health surcharge is a mandatory fee that must be paid during the application process.
UK Student Visa Fee 2024
Fees for UK student visas vary depending on the visa duration and therefore the visa category.
The student visa fee for UK study visas lasting up to 6 months is $137.
The student visa fee for the UK for short-term study visas (lasting longer than 6 months but not exceeding 11 months) is $268.
The fee for a UK long-term student visa (Student Visa) is $501.
For dependent visa applications, a separate visa fee will be charged for each person applying for the same visa.
Student Dependent Visa
Spouses and children – dependents – of applicants for long-term student visas may apply for a visa to stay in the United Kingdom with the applicant. For each dependent applying as a dependent, proof of funds in a bank account is required, and a separate visa application and visa fee must be paid for each dependent.
How long does it take to get a UK student visa?
UK student visa applications are processed within 3 weeks. The processing time is the same for both short-term and long-term student visa applications.
The UK departure time for a student visa can be shortened by using the Priority visa service. This service requires an additional fee. The Priority visa service allows for visa processing within 5 business days, however, processing times may be delayed when using this service for long-term student visa (Tier 4) applications. Even with express service, delays may still occur in the processing times for long-term visa applications.
UK Student Visa Rejection
UK student visa applications can be rejected for various reasons. Applicants are notified of the visa rejection in a detailed rejection letter. The letter specifies the reasons for the rejection and provides detailed information about any errors in the application or failure to meet visa compliance requirements.
If a UK visa refusal is not due to deliberately misleading statements, the applicant can reapply for a visa and appeal the refusal. The right to appeal is not granted for short-term applications. The refusal letter will include information such as whether an appeal is possible and the appeal period.

Reasons for UK student visa refusal:
The educational institution where registration is made is not an accredited institution,
The educational justification was not found credible,
Failure to provide proof of sufficient financial resources to cover education expenses and living expenses incurred during the education process, or the proof provided not meeting the relevant requirements,
Errors made on the visa application form,
Choosing the wrong student visa category,
The belief that people will leave the United Kingdom after completing their education is unfounded.
To eliminate potential reasons for refusal, you should check whether the educational institution is accredited, determine the correct visa type suitable for the duration and type of training, check the visa requirements, and complete the application thoroughly and carefully.
Writing a letter proving the purpose of your education, demonstrating the relationship between the education you will receive and your existing skills and previous training/certifications, is important to avoid being rejected for a UK student visa.
To overcome one of the most significant reasons for student visa refusal – "insufficient financial standing" – the required amount of money in the bank account must be accurately calculated, and the required deposit period must be carefully checked. Especially for long-term student visa applications, it is crucial that the money is in the account of one of the parents or in the applicant's own account.
